Twitter to launch advertising strategy very soon

Twitter to launch advertising strategy very soon According to the All Things Digital blog, which is linked to The Wall Street Journal, Twitter has apparently been briefing agencies about the launch of a new advertising service. From later in the year Twitter users who search for keywords will also be presented with text ads that are, like tweets, up to 140 words long. So for example if a user searched for movies they could get an ad plugging an upcoming film.

The ads however won't appear in a user's normal Twitter feeds only in their searches. The contextually based system is clearly influenced by Google and its very successful Google Adsense and Adwords programmes. There is however no word from Twitter on how brands will pay for the ads and whether the Twitter's service will adopt a Google-like pay per click format.

Twitter is also apparently to revamp its web based services. At the current time many Twitter users read their tweets via third party services like Tweetdeck. An engineer at Twitter, Alex Payne, recently tweeted "If you had some of the nifty site features that we Twitter employees have, you might not want to use a desktop client."
