Briton's are biggest online shoppers in Europe A report by pan European online price comparison site Kelkoo conducted by Centre for Retail Research (CRR) has shown that the biggest online shoppers in the continent are in the UK. And the company predicted that we will be spending even more online this year too.

According to the research UK consumers spent £38bn online in 2009, or an average of £1,102 per shopper. This accounts for a third of all European online sales and as much as 10% of all UK retail sites. The only other countries with similarly large online sales are Germany with a total spend of £29.7bn, and France with £22bn.

The CRC predicts that sales will continue to grow in 2010 and is predicting that by the end of the year the UK online sales will reach £42.7bn.

The report also highlights that UK shoppers now seem happy to make large purchases online with the proportion of them prepared to spend more than £1,000 or more on a single transaction rising from 12% in 2008 to 25% in 2009.
